Dear friends, at 68 years old and disabled with MS, and a former radio broadcaster, I was displaced and made homeless where I lived at ground zero in Englewood Florida by Hurricane Ian September 28 2022.
After putting all of my belongings into a storage unit, I subsequently drove further north to Lake City where I was forced to live in my car without air conditioning in the sweltering heat with my pet cockatiel Toby
until I could raise the money to purchase all cash a small house or mobile home in a better area out of harms way. Then it grew bitter cold during the winter months and I caught Covid following ear wax build up resulting in hearing loss. From there, I drove to Jacksonville still homeless.
Perhaps not the wisest choice for relocation being more of a random decision, as the city has the reputation of being one large ghetto. Unfortunately, government assistance and the public housing waiting lists are backlogged for years to come due to the extensive destruction caused by the storm.
Then I suffered a debilitating setback May 7 2023 when I collapsed in a parking lot from heat stroke and landed face first onto the asphalt requiring emergency room treatment costing thousands of dollars including stitches to my face,
dressing scrapes, cuts and bruises, IV's, and a battery of tests such as EKG and head scan. I am also blind in my left eye from the concussion. Hark! Phoenix voice over work is on hold TFN because my studio is still in storage.
In fact, this website is being maintained at the local library via their internet connection. My monthly social security income alone is also insufficient to finance purchasing including high insurance rates and lack of established credit since I'm debt free and prefer to remain that way,
